Strong As Oak and Success Against the Odds:
An Oak tree has a solid foundation and is rooted with strength. Mother nature can try to break it but it won’t bend. Yes, We compete with ourselves by challenging our physically and mentally limits at every activity we come upon. Whether it’s a gym, a crossfit class or a race.
Being Strong As Oak isn’t just about brute strength, it’s about persistence and the ability to face adversity. When discomfort is upon us we strive for more. We strive for more because we know the end result will be our own personal success. When we are in self doubt, we know we can look to our Strong As Oak brothers and sisters of this fitness community for help and motivation. We’re there for each other. Like branches on an Oak, we all grow in different directions, but our roots keep us together.
How The Strong As Oak Fitness Community Got Started
As I write this, I can honestly say that I had no idea Strong As Oak would become what it is now!
Strong As Oak was to keep me honest in raising money for theAutism Society of Illinois. They set up a website for people to donate per mile of the 2015 Vermont Spartan Ultra Beast. I needed the motivation and did not want to leave any possible money on the table. Strong As Oak became a motivational tool for me and my training for the 2015 Vermont Spartan Ultra Beast.
Once I finished the Ultra Beast, I thought, “if this worked for me, it can work for others!” The power of a fitness community and calling yourself out on your own goals and journey. You say it, you do it and you post it. Here you have a group of amazing people behind you, who want to see you succeed. You cannot let your dreams scare you.
I would like to thank everyone for being along on this awesome ride with me and Strong As Oak. It is the people who make this group. There is no pecking order. We all wake up and grind everyday. PERIOD.
I would like to give a special thank-you to Kenneth Hulk Terrell of Athen’s Health & Fitness. Kenneth was very important factor in raising funds for me and starting the Strong As Oak fitness community. He was the first OCR athlete with any name recognition that shared my Vermont Spartan post to raise money. He also became active in the SAO Facebook group when Yogi Grand was just George Grandolfo, a wannabe OCR athlete who couldn’t find his way out of the rolling mud hills.
Thank-you everyone and keep kicking butt!
